Glass Chandelier vs Crystal Chandelier: What Is the Difference?
Short answer
Glass chandeliers offer broad freedom in colour, blown forms, etched patterns and decorative shapes, while crystal chandeliers are usually chosen for faceted sparkle and light refraction. The better choice depends on the room style and the visual effect you want.
Decorative glass
Decorative glass can be clear, coloured, fluted, etched, cut or formed into shades, bowls and ornamental bodies. It works especially well when the glass itself is a major design feature.
Crystal
Crystal elements are typically selected for brilliance, faceting and the way they split and reflect light. They often suit formal interiors where sparkle is part of the intended effect.
Maintenance
Both materials need careful cleaning. Highly faceted crystal can involve many individual pieces, while shaped glass may require careful handling because of its size or form.
Choose by atmosphere
For colour, heritage forms and sculptural glass, choose decorative glass. For a high-sparkle, faceted appearance, crystal may be more suitable. Many chandeliers combine both approaches.
